Vault Play: Hotline Miami

Anyone with a PC (gamepad highly recommended), PS3, or Vita that appreciates modern games rooted in classic sensibilities should download this game as soon as possible and give it a try, even if it’s only to hear one of the best video game soundtracks of the past five years.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate – Review

I can’t recommend Castlevania:Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate to die-hard fans. If you’re looking for something akin to the previous DS entries you’re going to be disappointed. However, strictly going as a third party action-platformer on the 3DS, it’s not a bad game. I would say if you’re willing to keep an open mind and looking for something on-the-go, maybe pick it up once the price has dropped a bit.

PAX East 2013: Rise of the Triad

The graphics have been brought into this decade without losing the feel of the original game, and the controls are razor sharp which provided deadly accuracy with a mouse and keyboard in deathmatch. Releasing at the $15 price point, Rise of The Triad should be a fun and nostalgic return to the days when first person shooters didn’t take themselves so seriously.

PAX East 2013: Diablo III (PS3)

Hopefully by the time D3 is ready for store shelves the visuals will have gotten the standard coat of Blizzard polish, and the final product will stand alongside quality console ARPG’s like Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath instead of less well received ones such as Diablo back on the Playstation.

PAX East 2013: Boot Hill Heroes

With a potential for over thirty hours of gameplay across the campaign, Boot Hill Heroes looks like it could shape up to be an interesting romp for anyone looking to scratch a retro RPG itch. It is currently slated for release on Steam via Greenlight and and the Xbox Live Indie Games Marketplace.

PAX East 2013: Shovel Knight

While I have openly spoken about my mixed feelings towards many Kickstarter projects, this game is the real deal. If you are a fan of old school games or platformers in general, I highly suggest you check out Yacht Club’s Kickstarter page for Shovel Knight and help support its release for PC, Wii U, and 3DS later this year. Within minutes of starting the demo it became one of my most anticipated games at the entire show.

PAX East 2013: Metro: Last Light

I am incredibly excited for Metro: Last Light after getting time with it. It seems to have taken everything I enjoyed about Metro 2033 and added an extra layer of polish to smooth the rough edges of its predecessor for easier playability. If all of this comes together with a strong narrative, it could easily be one of the most talked about games from the first half of 2013.

PAX East 2013: Ben’s Notes from the Floor

It’s day two of PAX East 2013! The exhibition area of the show floor is absolutely immense this year and there is so much stuff to take in that it’s hard to process it all.

PAX East 2013: Might and Magic: Duel of Champions

The online card game market is highly competitive, and getting new entries all the time, but Duel of Champions has enough of a solid hook and a stable model that doesn’t promote a “pay to win” atmosphere.

Vault Play: Demon’s Souls

Almost five years after its release, and lurking in the shadows of its multi-platform successor, the game still has a thriving player community who are willing to help guide new players and assist them in tackling the vicious bosses.

Vault Play: New Super Mario Bros. 2

It’s been quite a while since I played a Mario Bros title. The last time I got involved with the venerable Italians was in 2006 when I got New Super Mario Bros for my DS Lite. Having recently received a 3DS, it seemed almost blasphemous to not buy a SMB game for it, and since I’m fonder of 2D platformers, I chose New Super Mario Bros. 2 over Super Mario 3D Land.
