Metro: Last Light – Review

There’s a returning focus on ammo preservation, although it’s definitely been tamed outside of the harder ‘Ranger’ mode. So, I naturally swapped to a stealthy, defensive approach to combat. 4A Games proprietary engine does lighting exceptionally well, and the levels are each designed with the same degree of flexibility as Arkham City. It’s a game that Metro Last Light recalls often during your exchanges with enemies.

Ultratron – Review

The deceptively simple gameplay can elicit plenty of different strategies through upgrades, and being primarily about your high score, there’s always room for improvement. PuppyGames has delivered a great feeling arcade shoot-em-up.

Anarchy Reigns – Review

The harsh truth is that Anarchy Reigns is, overall, underdeveloped, and maybe it was just a bit too easy to put it out like this. There’s reason enough to justify its discount price point, but this is likely a footnote rather than a landmark in Platinum Games’ catalogue.

God of War: Ascension – Review

God of War Ascension is confused, repetitive, directed, amazing, and experimental. It heralds the end of the generation, but itself is a story of the beginning. Both Alpha and Omega. How appropriate.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate – Review

I can’t recommend Castlevania:Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate to die-hard fans. If you’re looking for something akin to the previous DS entries you’re going to be disappointed. However, strictly going as a third party action-platformer on the 3DS, it’s not a bad game. I would say if you’re willing to keep an open mind and looking for something on-the-go, maybe pick it up once the price has dropped a bit.

You might not be playing Bioshock Infinite, or maybe you haven’t yet, but you really should be. Or have been. Or definitely going to. Do it.

Darkstalkers Resurrection – Review

Capcom’s progressive approach to the Darkstalkers franchise back in the 90s continues to pay dividends with Resurrection. Beyond its inherent nostalgia value, players will still have a blast pummeling monsters into submission and its suite of modern features should breathe new life into this long-dormant series.

Trajan – Review

There is no doubt your brain will get a workout during a playthrough. There are many different things going on all over the game board that you must be cognizant of while playing. The Roman theme is there but it isn’t at the forefront.

SimCity – Review

I’m not alone in my issues of simply running the game, even a week past launch. As much as it pains me to say this, I’d recommend not purchasing SimCity until there’s overwhelming positive support from the users. This is an extremely disappointing, as underneath it all, there seems to be a good game in there, just not one you can engage with consistently enough.

Sword of the Stars: The Pit – Review

If the core tactical gameplay sounds attractive, you’ll be sure to get a few hours of fun for the price of admission. That said, it’s a tough game to recommend unless the crafting system gets a systematic overhaul. As it stands, the game is a fun diversion but needlessly obtuse.

Fire Emblem Awakening – Review

Its gameplay alone has been compelling enough for me to beat the game twice before finishing this review. I only wish that it had stronger writing behind it to really pull at my heartstrings like previous entries in the series have.

7 Wonders – Review

The deep strategy adds so much replayability and variety for gameplay, it will be awhile before I will need the expansions, but it’s nice to know they are there when I need to inject something fresh into the game.
