Adam, Dan, and Pete talk E3, and are surprisingly positive! The talk evolves into a general discussion of the state of the industry, as well as its future. We also talk about the new Humble Bundle, escort missions, and simple machines.

Hey guys, sorry I haven’t been commenting lately, busy with life and all. Rest assure, I always listen and enjoy both show on this site.

Good show. It’s really interesting that you bring up the point that producers have a very rigid perception of what the gaming market wants.

I would post longer but I’m kinda tired. :p

Yeah i know why escort missions kinda sucks but…I do like them sometimes.

I challenge you to see the good in them !! the reason why i like them is that they offen bring some wonderfull randomness to the gameplay. I`m think of, lets say escort missions in Just cause 2, when your vehicle/car is destroyed, you and your escort partner have to find a new car, and it provide some very unscripted moments.

Also in Prototype 2, later there are some escort missions vhere you “follow” a squad round, and have to stay undercover while helping that squad, very good gameplay – and still an escort mission.

I my last thoughts are, like you guys said, its a power thing ! – but more so that the “person” your escorting, has to be “weak” in some kind of way, that they need your help – thats why escort mission work… can you have an escort mission with a stronger sidekick character ?, would that not just be an “on-rails” section mission ?

The drop-game-maker software could be Gamemaker studio (yoyo games), its very easy to make something and the built in language is also good, its only for 2D stuff, its kind of a “Game” in it self, when you try and make a game ;-)
