Rocket Jump: 049 – Diablo Luau

17 May 2012 by Jim Hunter

This week the gang is in full force as Ben returns, and it’s time to talk about how we did (or didn’t) get to play Diablo 3! For everyone who couldn’t connect with Blizzard or have a ten year old PC, Jim and Aaron talk about Max Payne 3 and how you can shoot a lot of dudes in the face…a lot. We also answer your voice mails and emails, and give out bad parenting advice.

Here’s that dude that Ben randomly met who opened for MC Frontalot: http://www.bradpodraymusic.com/

We’re also giving away some stuff this week! OSMOS and Dungeon Defenders on Steam, and a Halo Banshee Avatar Prop for your Xbox. To win, tweet the following: “Suck it, @modeps. @phokal give me [Dungeon Defenders]!” (replace Dungeon Defenders with the prize of your choice). Aaron will announce the winners early next week.

First game I ever played was actually Command and Conquer for the PC. After that was the Sonic Collection for PC.

After that was Oregon Trail (original) on an old something-or-other at the back of the classroom in 4th or 5th grade, iirc. Hell, I dunno, my memory for back then is awful, so ~shrug~. After that, m’parents got me a Sega Saturn, and well, the rest is history. Granted, I was born in 1991, so … I started gaming rather young. Hell, those first three games probably explain a lot as to my temperament as far as me being a gamer goes. Weird tastes.

I’m with Aaron, as a lot of my early gaming were the edutainment type games, particularly Carmen Sandiego, but at one point I think my parents had bought literally EVERY Broderbund title :P .

As far as non-educational games go, I remember quite a few Apple IIe games: Last Gladiator, Frogger, Swashbuckler. I remember Oregon Trail but did not get into it until the later DOS version of it. Other early games for the PC were Stunts (still one of the best racing/track-editor type games) and Scorched Earth. I love Scorched Earth. If that’s still around (and actually runs properly), that could be a fun game for kids as it does teach trial-and-error and basic math skills.

Hmm…the edutainment I remember most clearly is Math Blaster. And by “remember most clearly” I mean “nearly not at all”.

And I think the version of Oregon Trail I played was on an…Apple II? Ah well, can’t remember for certain.
