On a very special episode of Fall Damage, Adam and Dan are joined by nascent Splitkick contributer Jett Landicho as they talk about Max Payne 3, Diablo III (passingly), a revisit to Borderlands, Kid Icarus, Day-Z, and Jett’s then upcoming now downwenting appearance at Toronto’s Toryuken fighting tournament. Good episode all around. The only thing I don’t get is now Dan DOESN’T like Street Fighter X Tekken? He was all about it a few episodes ago when it first came out and said the gem system was awesome. I still think the gem system is interesting although I’ll admit Pandora is completely useless. Admittedly I’ve been playing SSF4:AE and Blazblue:CSE instead. I haven’t gone to the most recent patch for SFXT but that stinks they’d release such a game breaking bug. Hopefully they’ll fix it soon, otherwise it’ll probably end up on the trade-in pile. All the Borderlands talk makes me want to fire up my recently acquired PC version of it and see if I like it better than the middling experience I had with the 360 version. I don’t think I can handle ANOTHER loot sink! And yes, I didn’t love it. I didn’t hate it, mind you, but it didn’t wow me like it has others. David HughesQuote

The PC version was actually pretty terrible. I played it before the Steam achievements integration, so maybe they made it better, but it used Gamespy, had a terrible interface (both main menus and in-game), and required some port forwarding to get our group off the ground. “Console Port” described it well. It is a higher resolution, though, so it’s a bit prettier. Aaron PhokalQuote

And to add to what Aaron said, the FoV setting was not adjusted from the console setting either, so you felt really close to everything if you didn’t go into the .ini and mess around with it. That said, still a fun game. I own it on both Steam and 360, so David, if you want a dude to play it with, just add me and hit me up. I’m Matoyak on both XBL and Steam. Mason WorrellQuote

Still Gamespy on Steam version. Looks OK. Booted it up out of curiosity but my hand is still quivering from Diablo 3 sessions this weekend…. David HughesQuote

I had the PC version of the game pre-ordered and live streamed it on the Fall Damage website back in the day. I loved all 136 hours Steam tells me I have put into it to date and I much prefer it over the PS3 version I’ve been playing lately. Port forwarding? The game uses GameSpy integration, so if anything the fault was on GameSpy’s end and not the port of the game, and you are the first person I have known to have issues with that universal service. Two out of the 5 or so of us that picked it up on launch needed that kind of additional setup. I think this is what I’ve got (DLink 655): I’m sure it works for some or most people, but I hadn’t had to forward a port in years. Last game was maybe Neverwinter Nights 2. And the original Dawn of War 1, maybe, before that. Steam, Battle.net, Xbox, PS3, and even the Wii work fine. Editing the ini for FOV and other options were all eventually fixed, but the interface was pretty terrible and clearly designed for consoles. When one of your 3 big bullet points in your launch trailer is “New UI!”, it had some issues made more apparent on PC, where hitting Esc(?) to cancel a Weapons Comparison felt weird. It’s not like Borderlands on the PC was a bad game. It was the best Diablo since Diablo 2 (or Torchlight, I hear). It just had some quirks that made it more enjoyable on the Xbox with Party chat and controls. Aaron PhokalQuote
