Now that Nintendo has won me over completely once again thanks to the Wii U, I want a 3DS XL. Anyone have it? Is it worth getting? I’ve got a bunch of birthday money left and Amazon gift cards so I could get it right now if I wanted to. I’ve been dying to play Zelda: OoT and apparently Kid Icarus is amazing. Thoughts? JJQuote

Metal Gear requires circle pad to be anything even close to playable. Avoid until xl circle pad. Daniel TolinQuote

Hmmm. I saw the XL in Target on Black Friday and now I am interested in it. I originally thought it would be too bulky compared to the 3DS, but now that I’ve actually played one it isn’t bad. I am still debating just getting an original 3DS once they drop in price again to like $99 or less. I have my lineup of DS titles that I would like to play on it, along with some of the select stuff Pete mentioned. Ben DanielsQuote

Nintendo has a new XL bundle coming with Mario Kart 7 preinstalled, going on sale Dec. 2 for $199. Looks like that’ll be my jam. JJQuote

The eShop is also fantastic. Virtual Console, plus awesome originals! Also Cave Story. Daniel TolinQuote

So I just ordered the blue 3DS XL with Mario Kart 7 preinstalled to pick up this morning at my local Toys R Us. As a nice bonus you get a $30 gift card with any DS/3DS/3DS XL purchase! Sweet eh? I already got Resident Evil: Revelations, and Zelda: OoT should be here Tuesday. I’m psyched. So much Nintendo goodness around me right now. JJQuote

What follows is my adventure to obtain the aforementioned 3DS XL from Toys R Us (which I still don’t have). This would be hilarious if I wasn’t so desperate for this thing. Excuse the length of this post. I have to vent. Ordered at 8:30am this morning for in store pick up. Planned to swing by said Toys R Us on the way to a coworkers son’s b-day party with my son at Chuck E. Cheese. Email said it should be ready in two hours and I’d get an email when it was. Arrived at Toys R Us at 10:45am. I hadn’t received the “your order is ready for pickup” email, but since I had to buy coworker’s son a present, and I was there, and the first email said within 2 hours, I asked about it. It still showed “pending” in their system, and they couldn’t get it for me. She asked her supervisor. He said it’s within “6 to 7 hours”. WTF?!?! I calmly said I wasn’t upset at her, but their system said 2 hours. She said she’d tell her boss. Yeah right. I bought coworker’s son’s present and left. I got the “your order is ready email” around 12:30pm while nearing the end of our stay at Chuck E. Cheese. I leave bday party (I had planned to leave at that time since my wife is sick). Arrive at Toys R Us at 12:45pm, hoping for a quick pick up and departure so I could get home. As I enter the building, I notice it’s darker than usual, and customers and staff are standing around looking confused. Apparently the power had gone out. They wouldn’t let me pick up my 3DS XL (even though they had already charged my card at 8:30am) because they can’t pull it up in their system (power outage, duh). I get it, but come on. They asked all customers over the PA system to leave the store. We all left. It’s now 4:20pm. Wife is still very sick. I called an hour ago and they got power back. I’m hoping to go for a 3rd time within the hour to obtain my precious. Oh, and Gamestop emailed me again saying, “please check with your credit card company”. BASTARDS IT’S NOT MY CREDIT CARD!!!! Sigh. I just want my 3DS. Thank you for letting me share. JJQuote

Picked up my 3DS XL last night. What a fantastic machine. Mario Kart 7. Like riding a bike. The graphics, while seeming a little pixelated in the setup screens, is actually pretty good during gameplay. The 3D is a nice touch but I’ve kept it off mostly (I didn’t get it for that anyway). Played a little Resident Evil: Revelations. Not bad so far. The graphics are stunning. Controls are typical Resident Evil tank (unless you get that big add-on thing I guess). I’m really excited to play Ocarina of Time. It comes tomorrow. I love Nintendo again. It’s interesting to see now where the ideas for the Wii U interface came from. I hadn’t seen a 3DS menu, and I don’t think the DS was like this. But the Wii U menu is pretty much the same, only in high def. It makes jumping right in that much easier. Did I say how much I love Nintendo again? JJQuote

I’m a little disappointed you didn’t get Kid Icarus. It’s the best new first party game Nintendo have made in years, and you go with Revelations (which isn’t bad, it’s just nowhere near as good) ESPECIALLY WITH HOW MUCH I HAVE TALKED ABOUT IT Daniel TolinQuote

Rest easy Daniel. I put it on my Xmas wishlist that I sent to my in-laws. If I don’t get it from them it will be my first Xmas day purchase with the Amazon gift cards I will most likely get. RE was $18. Kid Icarus is still around $40. If money was no option KI would have been bought along with Ocarina of Time 3D. JJQuote

Ocarina of Time 3D is glorious. I tried to get into OoT when I got it on the VC a few years ago. I played the original and loved it. But it didn’t hold up so well with all the blurry textures. But on the 3DS, it’s like a new game. I played up through the Dodongo Cavern last night (the boss looked great!). Off to Zora’s Domain next! This game is a joy to play. JJQuote
