Not to jump in here as if I were the fighting game expert you were referring to, though my opinion wouldn’t hold much weight here anyway because I haven’t played them. From what I’ve heard about that series, they’re fun for what they are if you’re not looking for Street Fighter levels of depth. but I’ve generally heard good things about them. T Jett LandichoQuote

There was a demo for the first Ninja Storm on PS3 awhile back before it released. If you have access to that you can try out the mechanics. It’s really pretty and pretty fun. Plays more like Zone of the Enders or the over-the-shoulder DBZ games than it does a street fighter. It’s mostly 1-on-1 fights, but lots of circle strafing, positioning and such. Aaron PhokalQuote

Ha ha, I was thinking of you, but also just in general, Is it Ben, who also has some interests in fighting games ? or David ? I have no interest in 2D fighting games, i find them “lacking” in depth, mostly because of limited moving in the world, the fighting is fine, but i just want my fighting games to be in a 3D world with free movement, and the street figher games, are at this point in time, just boring to me… but the mortal combat one, looks nice I like the look af the ultimate ninja storm, also they are hard to find cheap new, or used, so maybe a lot of people enjoy them ? Thanks for your opinion PeterQuote

Yeah, I like the demos on the 360 too, but just never played them, also the circle strafing, and positioning seems like great fun, and is very appealing to me PeterQuote

On the surface, moving your character left and right in a 2D fighting game sounds very limiting. However, there is a ton of depth to movement in that genre. Even most fighting game players don’t appreciate the art of movement, but there’s so much to it if you really break it down. Just some considerations off the top of my head that 2D fighting game players have to factor in with movement: - Character walk speed - Jump arc and duration - Dashing In games like the Marvel vs. Capcom series, you’ll also have to consider things like super jumping, double jumping, triple jumping, air dashing, dash canceling, wave dashing, and all of the defensive/offensive opportunities that come with those movement options. Movement in a 2D fighting game can be hard to appreciate unless you’re really invested in learning its nuances (like I said above, even most ‘hardcore’ fighting game players don’t), but rest assured that there’s depth to it Jett LandichoQuote

First, I belive your right, there is depth to the movement in 2d fighting games, or depth in the nuances of the movement. I guess it the same when people tell me that the sword combat in Skyrim is “simple”, when I think there is a lot of depth to it PeterQuote
