Rocket Jump: 058 – The Profanity Station

26 July 2012 by Jim Hunter

This week Jim, Ben and Aaron regale you with tales of professional wrestling, dueling internet providers, and swear words on AMC. We talk Orcs Must Die! 2, Dyad, and Pocket Heroes. We also discuss all the games we’ve played this summer so far and what’s accumulating in our backlogs. Then we answer your voicemails and Aaron dies. A big hello to all our new listeners on Stitcher Radio!

Jim: The next time your PS3 controller runs out of batteries, pull the mini-USB cable from your PS3 and connect it to a laptop sitting on your lap (Edit) or near you. Then connect the other end to your controller and party on Garth!

Not a bad idea at all. But that would involve me getting my laptop and bringing it over… and all that other stuff. I’m fairly lazy.

Ah. Well, there’s that. :)
I just wanted to share an option that most folks are unaware of.

I had Hughesnet for 4 or 5 years. They limit your total download amount to 200 megs per day on the “premium” plan. This plan was 70 bucks per month. If you downloaded more than 200 megabytes (MB) per day, they cut your “acceleration” (that is to say: they drop you from DSL speeds to dial-up modem speeds).

There was one plan higher than we had, but… yeah. I wouldn’t recommend them at all. Especially when you mix in the latency (multiplayer is impossible. pings of over 100 ms on average on pingtest.net), and if you add in the drops due to cloudy weather, and drops due to sunny weather, and drops due to random weather balloons, and…no I’m not still bitter, what do you mean?

Good strategy game for PC? SHOGUN 2, natch.

Everything about that sounds like the worst thing ever.
