No interest in the Wii U (shocker!). To be honest, I’m having a hard time justifying even the continued presence of my Xbox 360 stuff despite my love for Halo and interest in Forza Horizon.

I honestly hope it turns out to be a solid console, but I’m not holding my breath.

Ben Daniels: I’m not holding my breath.

It all comes down to third-party success and new IP from Nintendo. The constant rehashing of their current IP is a well that I’m honestly surprised hasn’t run dry already. Doesn’t help I never grew up with a Nintendo system in the house, so the nostalgia angle doesn’t work.

People say Mario, Mario! or Zelda, Zelda! and I’m like: why the hell do I care?

Do you find yourself enjoying games like Darksiders (Soul Reaver/Zelda) or Rayman Origins (2d Mario)? The style and gameplay of a Nintendo title are still generally very good, even as “rehashes”. It’s not like there are a lot of Dungeon Exploring Adventure Games out there, especially with the budget and polish Nintendo can throw at them. My biggest issue was that the Wii wasn’t in HD, so it just didn’t look good on my TV set stretched. With the WiiU, while underpowered, it’ll at least be at an HD resolution, which I think will help a lot. However, there are usually only 5 or so of these strong nintendo games a generation, and for gamers that must pick just one console having only 5 to a dozen strong titles doesn’t compare to getting that many every year on the other consoles or PC.

I was only mildly interested in the Wii U, but I pre-ordered one anyway. I found some available through Wal-Mart’s website after Gamestop stopped taking pre-orders. I’ll get it after Thanksgiving but that’s okay.

I grew up with an NES and SNES (and an Atari 2600 and C64 before that), so Nintendo systems were the first gaming consoles that really had me hooked. As frustrated as I get at Nintendo and their IPs these days, I’m still firmly a fan and really hope they can deliver some solid stuff.

Like you guys were saying on the podcast, I’m not likely to get a multi-platform game on the Wii U. If it’s coming for the PS3, that’ll likely be my platform of choice. I’m pretty much getting a Wii U in the hopes of getting another Ocarina of Time/Metroid Prime level game that blows me away with an old franchise that I love.

No. But only because I still haven’t played them.

Got my Wii U pre-ordered. For better or worse, I am a die-hard Nintendo fanboy, and I probably wouldn’t be able to sleep at night without having one at launch. With that said, my Nintendo 3DS up till now has mostly been a bust, and the Wii ended up being a huge disappointment.

I understand that the hardware won’t be cutting edge, but I’m fine with that. I’ll get the next XBOX and PlayStation for that. Based on my time playing the Wii U at Fan Expo, I’m reasonably confident that I will get enough compelling experiences during its lifespan to justify owning one. Odds are, it’ll be first party support that fulfills that. Also, while I’m not fully sold on the Wii U gamepad’s extra features, having the standard button layout is a step in the right direction for games I want to play.

From the sounds of your other post, you don’t need any of these other systems because all you play is Guild Wars. Expand your horizons a bit and you will find there is a large amount of entertainment on other systems.

I disagree with your profile. You seem decidedly more angry than Mr. Hunter.

Sure, I play a lot of Guild Wars 2, and I play mostly PC games lately, but I have played most of the major console exclusives as well.

I’m just not a Nintendo fan and never have been.

I got to play the Wii U on Friday. I think they picked the ideal game for the demo. It consists of 2 Rayman levels and they are both relatively short but do a great job of showing off how the transitions from big screen to little handheld screen. I wasn’t big on using the controller’s gyroscope to spin wheels in the game. The controller is a bit too big to use for actions like that. It’s also a little unwieldy to try and use the controller’s touch screen with one hand without feeling like it might drop out of your other hand. I will say though that the screen looks incredible.

I was there pre-ordering NFS. The guys decided to put me in the pro-order line for Wii U as well. I told them I wasn’t interested and they said, “you’ve told us that before and then you come in wanting something and we don’t have it in stock.” They said if I don’t want it then when they call I just say I’m still not interested and they move to the next person in line. It was novel but I didn’t walk away from my time with the system saying, “I can’t wait to get my hands on my own system.” As cool as the system and experience was, I don’t think it’s for me.
