During our deep dive into Sim City, we conclude that Godzilla solves everything. We’re also the last to comment on the PlayStation 4 reveal. Beyond that, stick around for the healthy discussions around Crysis 3, Capcom Arcade Cabinet, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and the mysterious object Mat bit into in his Tim Horton’s sandwich.

@Monster Hunter: MH has a really bad start with very little in terms of beginner training and whatnot. But it’s kinda like fighting game where if you can get into the mechanics and understand how the game work you can get a lot out of it… like those freaks that put 400+ hours on each game *coughtotallyguilt*

I suggest, if you really want to get into it. Play it with friends and learn together; maybe have someone who knows the game to guide you through.

@SimAnt: Oh man, SimAnt was really weird. I played a few levels with it. So you’re on the black ants side, but you’re a yellow ant(because it makes it easier to distinguish you). Anyway, you basically try to expand the black ant colony while taking down the red ant colony. And you could be a forager find food, take care of the baby ants, or become a Soldier ant when the red ants attacks.

@SimEarth: I have one distinct memory of SimEarth. So I was playing it in high school, also not understanding a lot. And I notice that “Hey, I need some wildlife in the sea”. So I open up the menu to create life and I see that Starfishes were relatively cheap. So I liter the sea(which was majority of the planet I was playing in) with like 20 instances of starfish. Within a few minutes, 80% of my oceans where governed by starfish. There so many of them that I think they were actually impeding other wildlife like dolphins and fish. I was life “OMG, WHAT HAVE I WROUGHT UPON THIS EARTH! STARFISH INVASION!”

But it was cool. I remember being able to create dinosaurs and that they were hard to keep from extinction. Also the humans always waged war on each other and after a while they just all kill themselves… bleak.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Awesome show guys, keep it up. :)

Thanks for the comment and thanks for listening!

As a fan of fighting games, I totally understand that side of learning MH. However, it’s kind of a bummer then if the game itself isn’t as active in teaching the player things. I have that same criticism with almost every fighting game, where they usually teach you the “how”, but never the “why”.

Do you have any plans on picking up the Wii U version?

Maybe in the future but I really prefer MH on a portable so I’ll probably pick up the 3DS version. Isn’t there some sort of save file connectivity between the versions?

I honestly have no idea, though a Google search would quickly remedy that. I’ve never followed the franchise. If so, that’d be great!

According to the wiki the following is true about Monster Hunter tri Ultimate:
-Save game can be shared between the WiiU and 3DS version
-However saves are region locked, which probably means region locked multiplayer :(
-WiiU version has online play, 3DS does not(uses the Spotpass thingie)

I’m kinda not surprised. Maybe sometime in the future I’ll get the WiiU version for the online play but I really want to take MH on my commutes.
